In a world where it is not uncommon to find cycling shoes priced north of the $300 boundary, it is reassuring to find a high-quality cycling triathlon shoes like the Mavic Tri Race Shoes, which give you the great performance of top drawer shoes at half the price.

Mavic has focused on providing the lightest, stiffest, most cost-effective sole for their Tri Race Shoes. That means that they use the Energy Comp Outsole to give you the sort of power transfer you need with every stroke. The outsoles are made from a composite glass fiber and nylon insert, which gives them great stiffness but low weight. The stack height is also minimal at just 7.5 millimeters, so that your feet will be close to the pedals, reducing any loss of energy. Venting channels have been included so that your feet will not get overheated even on the hottest days. The soles have a three-hole set up and the cleat nuts have five millimeters of fore/aft adjustment, so you should be able to get the perfect set up without having to compromise.

The ease with which you can get in and out of the Tri Race Shoes is enhanced by the Ergo Tri Strap that is used. As a large strap that opens from the inside of the foot, the Ergo Tri Strap makes it super easy to adjust and secure the foot. And then when you hit T2, you can rip that baby open and be into your runners in a matter of seconds. Adding to the utility of the Ergo Tri Strap, Mavic has designed it with cut-lines in case you want to customize your strap so that it is the perfect length for you. For the second strap lower down on the foot, Mavic makes use of their Comfort Strap. Made from supple microfiber, this strap is comfortable and easy to adjust on the fly.

For the insoles, Mavic turns to their Ergo Fit 2D insole. Though it may seem a little less substantial than the insole that comes with the top range Tri Helium, the Ergo Fit 2D is a pre-shaped insole designed with a high density rear heel cradle. You’ll get the extra support and appreciate the level of comfort they provide. They have also been given a perforation to aid moisture transfer to keep your tootsies from getting too hot, and have taken the precaution of giving the insoles an Agion anti-bacterial treatment to keep things from getting too smelly after a few barefooted races.

If you want to make sure that your T1 transfers go smoothly, and that you’ll be comfortable on the bike once you set off, then you’ll want to consider the Mavic Tri Race Shoes that have been designed to give the best performance for those on a budget.
