Fulcrum Wind 40 Disc Wheelset

It could be said that Wind represents the right wheel at the right time: all of the most widely appreciated and sought-after features in a disc brake racing bike wheel are combined in the new, perfectly balanced design, boasting cutting-edge technological features in two of the most popular profile heights: 40 mm and 55 mm. It is interesting to go back to the very beginning, to the origins of this new project, and to note how the evolution of the hugely popular Racing Quattro Carbon models triggered a true revolution: a totally new wheel upon which each and every key component has been changed and improved - the rim, spokes and hubs are all new, conceived to work in harmony as a complete wheel offering impeccable performance. The new rim, which has been redesigned for use with the new, more generous tyres, is expertly crafted from several layers of carbon, culminating externally with a modern unidirectional finish.

A winning mix of performance, solidity, aesthetics and riding pleasure, without resorting to more extreme solutions reserved for the top models offered by the competition. When designing the new Wind profiles, our R&D department made full use of the aerodynamic skills and knowledge gained during the studies carried out in recent years, which led to the development of the profiles now used by our teams on the World Tour, introducing these into a different context but with equally high standards of excellence.

The 40 and 55 mm profiles of the Wind rims feature a very wide aerodynamic design (27mm) with an extremely pronounced 8mm profile, which shows its true potential when it comes to aerodynamic penetration, creating an element of continuity with the tyre without interrupting the flow: dissipative turbulence is thus prevented, with maximum control guaranteed, even when not riding into a headWind. The inner channel of the rim offers everything any rider could possibly wish for: it is 19mm wide and boasts 2-Way Fit construction - and as such is tubeless by conception. This ensures that it is perfect with both 25 and 28 mm tyres (and can also be used with 23mm versions), enhancing the shape of more generous tyres and creating an uninterrupted profile with the rim described above.

Another construction detail that provides an idea of the level of care taken when designing and creating the new rim is the Mo-Mag™ technology it boasts - a source of a real added value for the carbon structure: holes are not required to fit the spokes, no changes need to be made in order to switch to tubeless tyres, and there is no mechanical processing to interrupt the continuity of the carbon filaments. This increases the solidity and stiffness of the rim, delivering truly thrilling sensations in the saddle.

To complete the set-up, and to ensure that the rim can express its full potential, the wheel features 24 straight pull spokes, with aluminium hubs that have been painstakingly finished using CNC technology. The use of monoblock aluminium ensures that the hubs are not subject to any of the torsional stress created by the asymmetrical nature of the drivetrain and disc brakes, while the uniform design of the spokes enables the traction forces to be absorbed in an equal, balanced manner during sudden and forceful movements and braking. The new Wind DB will be available in the most commonly requested and widely appreciated configuration for high-end disc brake wheels: AFS ™ discs and HH12-100 mm through axles on the front and HH12-142 mm on the rear. This native configuration does not use any form of adapter, and as such, guarantees maximum overall precision and rigidity.
